The Wayland Board of Selectmen is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Town and School unions to make substantive changes to the health insurance plans offered to employees and non-Medicare retirees. The collaborative Agreement, which introduces new plan designs that include front end deductibles for certain services, becomes effective January 1, 2017. The Agreement remains in place through June 30, 2019.
It allows the Town to continue as a member of the West Suburban Health Group and defers discussion on a move to the State’s Group Insurance Commission. Employees and non-Medicare retirees will receive $450,000 in mitigation through June 30, 2019. The Board of Selectmen projected a net savings of $2,000,000 in health care costs through June 30, 2020, without making adjustments for medical inflation to insurance premiums.
A copy of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Town of Wayland and the Wayland Public Employee Committee is available online here.
The Selectmen appreciate the unions’ collective efforts and thank them for their work in reaching this agreement.
