On behalf of the Board of Directors of the West Suburban Veterans District, it is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Sarada Kalpee as the new Director of Veterans’
Services. In this capacity, Sarada will be responsible for the provision of all veterans services across the communities of Needham, Wayland, Wellesley and Weston. This work includes outreach to veterans, assistance with filing of claims for benefits, certification of applicants’ eligibility, management of the business affairs of the District, supervision of staff and other significant duties.
Sarada has served in the U.S. Army Reserves since 2002 and currently holds the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 2013, she was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, where she served for 12 months as a Senior Mechanic. More recently, Sarada has served as a Veterans’ Service Officer for the City of Boston. Sarada’s personal understanding of veterans’ needs and her growing knowledge of the services available through the Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and other entities will be of tremendous value to the veterans in our communities.
Please join me in welcoming Sarada to this important role.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Stan Spear for his leadership of the District since it was formed in 2010. Stan was instrumental in the startup of the District, and he has developed key relationships across the four member communities and with representatives of the relevant veterans services agencies. Stan recently returned to work following a medical leave, and I am relieved to see the District team back at full strength, with Sarada, Stan and Sally Rose working together to deliver services to our veterans.
I would like to thank John MacGillivray for his temporary service to the District during Stan’s medical leave and following the departure of Matt Ching. John’s support during this transition was invaluable and a testament to his commitment to veterans and knowledge of veterans services. Lastly, a special thanks to Sally Rose for her assistance and team approach in filling in when and wherever needed to ensure the services to the District continued.
