Additional speed tables have been installed this week in compliance with the terms of the settlement agreement brought by residents concerned about "cut through" traffic. Thirteen residents brought suit against the Town seeking protection against the possibility that citizens accessing the Wayland Town Center mixed-use development from Route 126 and areas northeast of Glezen Lane would use Glezen Lane, Moore Road or Bow Road rather than the Route 126/27 intersection that was signalized for the project.
After measuring traffic use over the past several months, use of Glezen Lane has increased by more than 5% during weekends, triggering the installation of three additional speed tables at locations agreed upon by traffic engineers consulting on the suit. The new speed tables will be placed just east of Barley Lane; between 58 and 62 Glezen Lane; and in front of 102 Glezen Lane.
If traffic volumes continue at current levels, the current turn restrictions prohibiting left turns from Glezen Lane westbound onto Route 27 southbound and right turns from Route 27 northbound onto Glezen Lane eastbound on weekends between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. will be extended to 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on both weekdays and weekends. Continued high traffic levels will require installation of three additional speed tables and extension of the turn restrictions to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
