Town Administrator Fred Turkington has announced the appointment of Jay Abelli as Building Commissioner.
Jay has worked for the Town as the local building inspector for the past 14 years and has been certified as both a local building inspector and as a building commissioner by the Commonwealth for most of that time. Prior to joining the Town, he worked for many years in his family's construction business after earning his bachelor's degree.
Jay was the consensus recommendation of an interview panel that met with four finalists. That panel consisted of Fire Chief Vinny Smith, Personnel Board member Nick Willard, Selectman Doug Leard, and HR Director John Senchyshyn. The original applicant pool was reduced to the four finalists after interviews by Assistant Town Administrator/HR Director John Senchyshyn and a building commissioner from a comparable town.
Jay's promotion is effective August 9, 2012. He will earn $78,064 a year under the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement that governs the terms and conditions of employment of this position. He replaces Dan Bennett, who left Wayland in early June to assume responsibility for building inspections for the Town of Brookline.
A search for a local building inspector to replace Jay will begin next week.
