State Department of Revenue Approves Tax Rate of 17.89 for FY2013
The Board of Assessors presented information to the Selectmen on classification - whether to establish a split tax rate for commercial and personal property and/or whether to adopt residential exemptions - at a hearing on December 10, 2012.  Selectmen considered public comment and input from the Finance Committee before voting to establish a uniform tax classification for residential and commercial/industrial properties.  The Assessors presentation is available here.

The Board of Selectmen then reviewed the elements of the tax recapitulation sheet, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) document that provides the information on which the Commonwealth certifies the local tax rate for FY2013.  This public review was required by Sec. 19-9 of the Town Code as approved by Article 19 of the 2012 Annual Town Meeting.  The purpose is to promote citizen understanding of each element of the tax rate calculation.  Documents related to the tax rate are posted on the Assessor's website.

A tax rate of 17.89 has been approved by DOR.  Tax bills will be mailed by December 31.
