The Wayland Board of Health has appointed Julia Junghanns to the position of Director of Health. Ms. Junghanns replaces Steve Calichman, who retired in July after 17 years of service to the town.
Ms. Junghanns completed work on an Associate’s Degree at Dean College in 1989 and graduated from Framingham State University in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Geography. She began her career in public health in 2000 working for the Town of Wayland as Health Agent/Sanitarian. In the past 11 years while working for the Town, Julia has been very involved with overseeing the Town’s Title 5 program and obtained her Registered Sanitarian license, Certified Soil Evaluator, Certified Pool Operator, Title 5 System Inspector, ServSafe Certification, and recently attended a comprehensive Food Inspector Pilot Training Program.
Julia has been a member of the Massachusetts Health Officer’s Association since 2003 and has served on the group’s Executive Board since 2007. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Environmental Health Association, and the National Environmental Health Association. Julia was raised in Franklin, MA and now resides in Bellingham.
