MassDEP Issues Sewer Connection Permit for Town Center Project
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has issued a permit in response to the application of Twenty Wayland, LLC to connect to the Wastewater Treatment Facility.  MassDEP held a public hearing on May 19 in response to comments on the draft permit and requests for a public hearing received from citizens.  A copy of MassDEP’s determination on the sewer connection permit application, together with the department's response to public comments, can be viewed here.

The final permit provides up to 45,000 gallons per day of Title V estimated water use, with 28,000 gpd subject to completion of the new wastewater treatment facility to allow Phase 1 of the Town Center development to proceed, and deferred release of the remaining 17,000 gpd for Phase 2 based on a review of actual water discharged.  Release of the additional allocation is in the sole discretion of MassDEP.  In addition, the final permit includes a requirement for grease traps for all restaurants and sets standards for operation and maintenance of the pump station should the WWMDC decline to accept ownership.
