Press Release- March 25, 2011
The Wayland Board of Assessors requests your cooperation with its initiative to ensure accuracy of all property records in town. In the state of Massachusetts, property values are used as the basis for fairly allocating all expenses established by the Town budget to all property owners.
As approved by Town Meeting in 2009, and after making other department improvements, the Board is administering a Full Measure and List Program in Wayland. This program involves inspecting every property in town within the next three years. We have contracted with Vision Appraisal to assist in this effort, and the inspection process will be under the direction of Ellen Brideau, the Director of Assessing. A notice of the inspection schedule will be sent to you in advance with convenient times available for inspections by contractors and office staff during weekdays, evenings, and Saturdays. During the visit, the inspector will measure the exterior of the building, as well as visually inspect the interior of the property.
Our primary goal is to be fair and equitable to all property owners, and that process begins with accurate information in our files. By inspecting all properties during the next three years, the assessor’s office can more accurately delineate all of the pertinent factors for the value of land and buildings. This data in combination with the relevant sales data will help create a more comprehensive snapshot of our community to determine the most accurate property assessments.
Property owners’ cooperation is vital in order for the department to successfully administer this Full Measure and List Program. Please respond promptly to letters, phone calls, and door hangers to schedule your inspection. Our goals are to make this process as convenient as possible and to assure you that your property record card is accurate.
As always, please contact the assessing department with any questions at 508-358-3788.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
