Merchants Way Redesign Agenda
TOWN OF WAREHAM
MERCHANTS WAY REDESIGN PROJECT
The Community and Economic Development Authority (CEDA) is working with the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority and SRPEDD to develop conceptual plans for creating a more vibrant Wareham Village thru improvements to Merchants Way and the development of a Commercial Waterfront District that includes Main Street from Sawyer Street to Besse Park.

Improvements will strive for a healthy balance between automobiles, bikes and pedestrians to create a truly livable, pedestrian friendly street – where people feel safe and comfortable meeting, shopping and strolling – and a vehicular traffic system that is safe, efficient and easy to understand.  Improvements we may consider include:
  • Improved parking, pedestrian scale lighting  & way finding signage;
  • Short, visible crosswalks that can be used safely and easily;
  • Clearly marked and dedicated bikeways and travel lanes;
  • Conversion of the Train Depot to a Bus Depot;
  • Generous sidewalks that offer options for seating, cafés, landscaping and street trees;
  • Site furnishings that make life more comfortable like benches, bike racks, trash receptacles,
We want to hear what’s important to you. Your ideas…Your concerns!
We hope to build upon past planning efforts and discuss current thoughts on desired circulation patterns, waterfront access and restoration, connections to Main Street, reuse options for the Train Depot, connections to existing and future destinations, and partnerships between the Town and the Business Community.

To facilitate this dialogue, CEDA will host a series of meetings and workshops with the Town’s design consultant, The Waterfield Design Group in the Town Hall Auditorium on:
  • April 4, 2013 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM – Municipal Department Heads;

  • May 13, 2013 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM – Wareham Village Business and Property Owners;
