ITEM 5a. Salt/Sand Update: Supt. Free gave a presentation for the proposal of a salt storage building. He outlined the costs quoted from Lane
B. Free passed out a sample of tarp material that could be used to cover the salt if the larger building option was chosen.
B. Free passed out sketches of another type of building with the dimensions, 42x56/23,000 sq ft., this type of building delivered but not assembled, that would cost of $23,664. If the company installed the building it would cost $62,664. It was noted that there would be quite a savings if public works constructs the building. The larger building would house the salt and the sand.
The Council questioned the amount of salt that would be on hand at any given time. B. Free explained that the Town should keep at least 60 tons on hand at all times. The minimum tonnage for drop off is 30 tons. Free explained that he had not looked into several types of buildings. CEO Thomas spoke with the engineer and confirmed what would be required to erect the different buildings.
Chairman Hathaway expressed his concerns, he stated that he supported the project, but that it is late in the season and the project was not budgeted for this year. It would take three weeks for the building to be delivered and then it would have to be erected. He stated that other projects that are already scheduled would suffer if Public Works were to take on the project to build a building.
Manager Reed explained that is important for the Town to store the salt properly. Manager Reed is concerned that the arch type building may have to be erected using a crane.
Supt. Free agreed that it would be tight to try and do a project of this magnitude this late in the season.
Councilor Michaels asked if it would be possible to try salt for a storm or two to see how effective it is.
Chairman Hathaway asked, which towns are using all salt. Free stated that Presque Isle and other towns to the north. Manager Reed stated that Yarmouth went to all salt and he thought Portland had as well. Manager Reed stated that they would try to get a copy of a report from Yarmouth on the outcome of salt use.
Chairman Hathaway asked Supt. Free to continue researching this type of project.
Free stated that Public Works will be using liquid calcium. The substance is sprayed on the sand and helps the sand stay on the road.
ITEM 6a. Review of Goals and Objectives: The Councilors handed in their goal and objective worksheets to be compiled by Deputy Town Clerk Reed. Chairman Hathaway stated that he would like to add an item 5, after comments from the public, to discuss of financial assessment of the individual departments.

JC Auto Bill: Manger explained that he wanted to keep the Council updated as to the cost of monitoring the air quality at the Huggard

Agenda and Minutes from the School Committee: Councilor Michaels asked about all the resignations at the Veazie Community School. Councilor Friedman stated that this happens at the school about every five years. Manager Reed believes that most of the positions have been filled.

Government Channel 7: Because of ingress the Town has changed from channel 7 to channel 5 and the weather is on channel 7 now. James McCloud has spent multiple hours at the Town Office, with office staff to improve the Government Channel output.
