City Council Ordinance Committee

Monday, November 14th, 2016
City Hall Room 215
6:00 p.m.

Attendance:  Chairman Gregg Cogswell, Councilwoman Anne Ruwet, Corporation Counsel Jaime Lamere, Tim Waldron, Mayor Elinor Carbone, Dennis Andrews

Chairman Cogswell called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m.

The committee discussed Public Act 16-99 An Act Extending the Municipal Property Tax Relief to Retired Volunteer Firefighters, Fire Police Officers, and Emergency Medical Technicians.  Chairman Cogswell recapped that the public hearing was recently held but a question arose whether or not the ordinance would be retroactive or only cover retirees after July 1, 2016.

Corporation Counsel Lamere presented the committee with a draft ordinance that would cover all retirees regardless of when they retired.  Councilmembers Cogswell and Ruwet were both in favor and supported the ordinance as presented as a way to support our volunteers.

Councilwoman Ruwet made a motion to forward the ordinance to the City Council for their approval, Councilman Cogswell seconded the motion which passed.

Mayor Carbone spoke to the committee of the need for potential new ordinances related to automotive repair work completed in the street, lawn debris removal, and others.

A motion to adjourn was made by Councilwoman Ruwet at 6:32 p.m., Chairman Cogswell closed the meeting at this time.

Respectfully submitted,

Tim Waldron
