Attendance: Chairman Gregg Cogswell, Councilwoman Anne Ruwet, Councilman Paul Cavagnero, Corporation Counsel Jaime Lamere, Tim Waldron
Chairman Cogswell called the meeting to order at 6:06pm
The committee discussed Public Act 16-99 An Act Extending the Municipal Property Tax Relief to Retired Volunteer Firefighters, Fire Police Officers, and Emergency Medical Technicians. Paul Cavagnero and Anne Ruwet suggested that our amended ordinance mirror the state’s Public Act and list all people affected.
Committee members all agreed that this is a good incentive for local volunteers who have served 25 years and is well deserved.
Tim Waldron reported that according to the latest numbers from the Assessor’s office, they expect there to be 3 individuals who would qualify for this benefit.
Corporation Counsel Jaime Lamere said she would draft an amended ordinance to reflect the Public Act and would have it to the Ordinance Committee by the end of the week. The committee discussed scheduling of the public hearing and if the new language was needed to schedule the public hearing or not.
Councilwoman Anne Ruwet made a motion to vote to recommend that City Council schedule a public hearing on the proposed ordinance change, the motion was seconded by Councilman Cavagnero. The motion passed with all in favor.
A motion to adjourn was made by Councilman Cavagnero, seconded by Councilwoman Ruwet. Chairman Cogswell adjourned the meeting at 6:21pm.
