MINUTES
MONDAY, MAY 16, 2011
The meeting was called to order at 5:45 p.m.
Present were Chair Gerald Zordan, City Councilors Marie Solani and Greg Cogswell, and Corporation Counsel Ernestine Weaver.
Municipal Option to Exempt Farm Buildings
The Ordinance Committee met to discuss implementing an exemption for farm buildings. This was the Committee’s first meeting on this issue. Chair Gerry Zordan disclosed to the group that he would be eligible for the exemption and although he is able to talk about this at this level, he would have to abstain from voting if the matter was recommended to Council. The committee members acknowledged the disclosure.
Issues discussed included: purpose, impact to the grand list, examination of other communities ordinances and ability to limit the applicability. It was suggested that the committee meet with the Assessor to understand the revenue loss by implementing the ordinance. Corporation Counsel Weaver will schedule an 8:15 a.m. meeting between the Committee and the Assessor to discuss impact to the grand list.
There being no further business on a motion by Greg Cogswell seconded by Marie Solani, the meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
