Vehicle Replacement Advisory Board
Regular Meeting
July 8, 2013

A Regular Meeting of the Vehicle Replacement Advisory Board was held on Monday, July 8, 2013 in the Mayor's Office.

Present were Mayor Ryan Bingham, Fire Chief Gary Brunoli, Fire Marshal Timothy Tharau, Board Member Glenn Royals, Fleet Manager Emil Castro, Comptroller Alice Proulx, City Council representative Gerald Zordan, James Potter, and Mayoral Aide Timothy Waldron.

Fire Marshal's Vehicle

Mr. Castro described the current vehicle as a 2003 Ford Explorer with 142,000 miles on it.  The replacement budget is $26,161, he said, and a pre-owned 2011 or newer Ford Explorer or equivalent is desired because if a pre-owned vehicle qualifies we will need to get the maximum warrantee possible.

Mr. Castro asked the Fire Marshal if a Ford Escape would suffice.  Mr. Tharau replied that it would not, as he needs to store and carry investigative equipment and turnout gear that would not fit in a smaller vehicle, especially with a passenger.

Mr. Castro said the Fire Department maintained the previous vehicle very well, and added that he expects to be under budget on the replacement vehicle.

Mr. Potter asked about the Ford Explorer's fuel efficiency, and Mr. Royals replied that although miles per gallon is low, at 15 or 16 mpg, the Explorer makes up for it in low maintenance costs.  Mr. Royals added that he'd rather see a 2012.

Mayor Bingham asked the Board if there were any objections to going forward with the bidding process.  No objection was made.  Mr. Castro asked for clarification that once the bids come back, permission to purchase will be needed from the Boards.  Mr. Royals pointed out that if the purchasing process is too long, there is a risk for losing the lowest price vehicle.

All board members agreed to go forward with the bid process for the replacement vehicle.

The meeting ended at 9:45 a.m.
