Cultural Affairs Committee Minutes
March 12 4:00pm
City Hall Auditorium

Attendance:   A. Bates Lyons, Osvaldo Rosado, Ruth Gonzalez, Brian Mattiello, Rose Ponte, Jo-An Creedon, Chief Maniago.

Chairman Osvaldo Rosado called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.  
Ruth Gonzalez provided the Northwestern Connecticut Community College Profile of Registered Students. The data provided minority student demographic information, enrollment status, and educational attainment figures from spring 2012-spring 2013. Ruth expressed concern over the changes in state funding for scholarship and federal financial assistance and how this will affect minority students.
Rose Ponte outline activities for the committee to consider that would provide avenues for outreach. MSMP, the annual summer festival will have a different ethnic theme every week. Anyone from the committee who would like to assist can work with the Arts and Culture Commission.
Brain Mattiello provided the 2012 Community Health Needs Assessment Executive Summery which was prepared by the Center for Healthy Schools and Communities at Education Connecticut. Specifically discussed was the health risks attributed to the minority population in Litchfield County.
