Torrington Cultural Affairs Committee
June 11, 2012       5:00pm
City Hall Auditorium
Attendance: Mayor Ryan Bingham, Chief Maniago, Tim Waldron, A. Bates Lyons, Bill Battle, Ruth Gonzalez, Osvaldo Rosaso
The meeting was called to order at 5:05pm.  
Minutes were unavailable from the previous meeting and were not voted upon.
The committee discussed the role of DCF in the community and the new criminal justice laws regarding minors.  
College visits for high school juniors were being planned as a way to encourage students to seek higher education.  The committee would work with THS in arranging these.  
The committee discussed how to better reach out to parents and other students, a suggestion was made to have flyers for different events available at parent teacher conferences.  
A. Bates Lyons  discussed the possibility of meeting with students along with classmates from his college fraternity.  
Bill Battle reported on the efforts of the Workman A.M.E. Zion Church in encouraging greater parental involvement and the role of the family.  
Chief Maniago updated the committee on the efforts of the Police Activity League (PAL) in acquiring property for a dedicated building for the program.
The  next meeting will be held on Thursday, July 12th at 10:00am in the City Hall Auditorium.
Meeting adjourned at 5:50pm.
