Torrington Cultural Affairs Committee
Monday, April 9th 2012
7:00pm Auditorium

Attendance: Bill Battle, Ruth Gonzalez, Ovis Armstrong, Glaister Gopic, A. Bates Lyons, Darlene Battle, Osvaldo Rosado, Chief Michael Maniago, Mayor Bingham, Tim Waldron
The meeting was called to order at 5:00pm.  The minutes of the last meeting were approved on a motion from Mayor Bingham and seconded by Bill Battle.  
Mayor Bingham introduced Ovis Armstrong and Glaister Gopic from the State Department of Children and Families.  The guests discussed with the committee the various programs and outreach initiatives that DCF does and their desire to be more active in the Torrington community.
A.  Bates Lyons discussed with the committee the recent program held at THS, he said it was a very well run program.  
Action Items:
Chairman Rosado reported that the recent Chamber of  Commerce Home Show at the Armory was a great success and featured many local businesses and organizations.  
Mayor Bingham reported that the Arts Culture Torrington Commission was finalizing the Main Street Market Place for this upcoming summer.  Members of that commission will be partnering with the Cultural Affairs Committee in planning the Food and Culture festival this fall.  
Tim Waldron reported that the Facebook page was up in an early stage, the page can be found at www.facebook.com/TorringtonCulturalAffairs 
Both the anti-bullying event and the reading program are on track and being planned, more information will be given as it becomes available.  
Police Chief Maniago updated the committee on the recent racial profiling issue, he has stated the CT Police Chief’s Association is strongly against the practice of it and are taking steps to prevent it.  
New Business:
Mayor Bingham noted that the City would be holding a Wine Tasting to raise funds for the Fireworks Show to be held in July.  
Mayor Bingham made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:02pm, seconded by Bill Battle.
