0-3 update: meeting will happen with the Torrington
TECC CVS grant: Music therapy 3 different sessions: classroom based, individual 1:1 sessions as well as FRC open to the community and the children with special needs. Brochures for these sessions was discussed and eight 0-3 families will be chosen with the applications. If there are children in other towns or if there are more than eight children, there will be a lottery. Children that participate need to have some special needs.
The 29 of October will be the first of the sessions. At Vogel Wetmore school. 9-9:45 is the length of the session. The sessions will be running for 6 weeks.
Stephanie: Child Mental Health Symposium. Stephanie has discussed her experience about the lack of the mental health supports for very young children
Medical home has a grant that may help with bringing the information to the area. Discussion around the different agencies working together as a larger entity. Dr. Carbonari may come with Molly Cole and Laura Knapp would come to discuss the information that they are promoting. A forum would be a nice way to unify everone in the community. A workplan moving forward may be helpful.
Joan spoke about the sort presentations “epic Models” to get them involved. Jan spoke of having the providers go to the offices and do a lunch and learn. Schools can also have the information to be able to make appropriate referrals if necessary. We will be putting this information on the next agenda for siscussion. Asking Dr. Sandra Carbonari to do a presentation at the next meeting. We will look into space for the upcoming meetings to accommodate all of the members.
Home Visiting grants: Child First grant and an extended Parents as Teachers grant starting December 1. DPH received money from the feds. The money was available quickly. The models were presented by Trorington and Winsted. The community was asked to decide who will be doing the proposals. The prop needs to be complerted by Tuesday. Information needs to be gathered at this meeting. This model needs to be evidenced based and providing the information. The proposal is a bit different that ohtenr grants. This is the message from the get go that it is community based and it was set up that way. It was intended to get the commubity collaborating together.
We discussed the proposal in depth, enlisting information from CT AIMH (Dr. Aileen McKenna from 0-3 may be a resource or Margaret Holmberg or Rebecca Parilla Ph.D.
Jan Lyon passed around draft #2 of the assett map for the community.
Under one initiative Anna Hollister: Focusing on other issues related to children under one and finding these children. 0-3 is looking at the standardized testing. CSPD is looking at the testing that we are doing on these children. The capacity issue will be addressed. An RFP is out now to get a liason to connect with the families that have preterm babies. This should increase the awareness of the services and be support.
Trish discussed the annual conference this past Tuesday. The Danbury LICC had the kick off meeting as well and will be doing workshops. CT FSN will be doing a raffle for a trip to Newport.
Kim Stagliano was one of the key speakers. House of Cards was a novel that she wrote and has three children of her own with Autism. Molly
Cole also talked about the history of the “parent Movement” with their children that have special needs. There were about 77 people that came to the conference. Sheila Harris was also highlighted and she used emotion and how it has a positive outcome for their lives.
TECC has community conversation next week on Thursday and the topic is on Family Engagement. There is free dinner and looking to get a cross section of the community in all for the groups. This is on the torringtonchildren website. There is a raffle for a nook.
Family Strides has openings for first time parents. They have a male home visitor, There are also parenting classes that starts tonight. Laura will be sending out the flyer.
We may switch the day of the meeting in order to accommodate the larger group. The calendar will be attached. The next meeting will be November 8 from 9-11. Donna will look at a site to be sure to accommodate the group.
