TECC Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

Called to Order by Donna Labbe 12:35pm

Minutes from last meeting reviewed and additional attendee added: Cara Manegal. Approved as corrected.
Welcome to Heather Kosmulski, new Co-Chair of TECC- she is a parent who is PEP graduate and has spoken on behalf of TECC budget request to city officials.
Grants Discussion:
PEP/APEX Mayor and mayor’s assistant attended evening class and participated in question and answer session. Video will be posted on TECC’s website. Both morning and evening sessions running currently. Morning class interested in Leadership workgroup & will attend December’s parent committee meeting. Discussed APEX with Family Resource Center/Foothills Adult Ed ESL class to recruit members. May offer APEX sessions to this class.
NCCC Course 10 participants from Torrington interested in Spring class, many from the current PEP classes. Would like to see past participants meet with current class to discuss continued advocacy efforts.
Discovery 08/09 Stone Soup Conference held 10/21. Discovery Funds due to end 12/09.
Partnership Grant 5 committees up & running. Report due in January. Members will attend Graunstein Memorial Foundation Technical Assistance training on how to finance your community plan next week.
Committee Updates:
Need to find new location to meet in 2009 as City Hall will be undergoing significant renovations.
School Readiness Has merged with TECC School Readiness committee.
March 7th proposed date for Kindergarten Readiness Fair with the 14th as snow date. Members currently securing raffle donations for event.
Professional Development Looking at merging with Leadership workgroup concentrating on Child Development next year. State Dept Of Education Infant/Toddler Guidelines training for providers December 3rd. Spring offerings may include: Sensory Integration & Conscious Discipline.
Public Awareness Website basically done, committee approved contact. Logo needs work. Will be up and running after logo work is finished.
Parent Committee Meeting held with Winsted students in NCCC course to discuss how parent committee works to help promote their own parent group in Winsted.
Doing Winter Clothing & Accessories Drive, good publicity already through newspaper and radio. Donations being accepted. Looking to recruit new members through the schools and the Family Resource Center.
Mindy Hobson appeared on Public Access Cable and Donna Labbe was on 610 A.M. promoting the coat drive. Two articles were also published in both local newspapers.
Budget: fiscal year ends in December, spending right on target, renewal forms being done for $25,000 in 09. Did receive approval to request $1400 in Technical Assistance funds from Discovery grant for community asset mapping. Expecting large budget cuts on state level in 2009.
2009 Executive Committtee Meeting dates set. Usually 2nd Friday of the month from 12:30-1:30pm - Jan 9th, Feb 13th , March 13th, April 3rd, May 8th, June 12th.
