Meeting Minutes
October 16, 2013 10:00pm
City Hall – Room 224

Attendance: Jacque Williams, Sharon Waagner, Jessica Hodorski, Ed Cannata, Rose Ponte, Lynn Gelormino, Kim Fazzino, Tim Waldron
Meeting called to order at 10:03am
Jacque Williams made a motion to open the meeting to the public, seconded by Kim Fazzino
Sharon Waagner noted that the previous minutes incorrectly listed Jay Roberts affiliation, he is with the Performance Hub, and that Torrington Dough takes place on Thursdays.  Amended Minutes of previous meeting were approved on a motion by Sharon Waagner and Kim Fazzino, all were in favor.  
Lynn Gelormino announced to the group that Commissioner Nancy Yurgeles has submitted her resignation from the Commission.  Suggestions on individuals to fill the vacancy should be sent to Tim Waldron in the Mayor’s Office.  
Upon Nancy’s resignation the position of commission secretary had become vacant, Sharon Waagner volunteered to serve as Secretary.  Kim Fazzino made a motion to appoint Sharon as secretary, seconded by Ed Cannata, all in favor.  
Ed Cannata updated the commission on the Christmas ornaments that were being created.  The Torrington Library was chosen as the cover to commemorate their 150th Anniversary.  The ornaments will be sold at various stores throughout town.  
Lynn Gelormino brought up the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and noted that there will be several events taking place including Light up Main on Friday evening, movies Muppet Christmas and White Christmas being played at the Warner Theatre on Saturday.  
Ed Cannata reported that he is working on a smaller scale version of Torrington Buzz.  He will also be talking to Bill Haygood about selling some of the MSMP posters at local stores.  
Jacque reported  he is working on setting up a Music & Arts Festival and has been speaking to an entertainment fest company.  He is looking at exploring different options for the event which he hopes may take place next September.  
Kim Fazzino reported that November 17th and 24th the Nutmeg will be holding a Sugarplum Tea to prepare for the Nutcracker ballet which will begin soon.  
Ed Cannata said the Historic Preservation Trust is in the process of planning more fundraisers for Skee’s
Jessica Hodorski reported that the Torrington Library is in the process of planning several events to mark the Library’s 150th Anniversary next year.  She also noted that Callista Jewelry recently tied with Kids Play at the recent Torrington Dough.  They are creating a unique piece of jewelry designed by a Torrington resident.  

Lynn Gelormino noted that the Warner Theatre will begin to have a Friday night jazz series at the Warner, it is set to begin in November and run through February on select Friday evenings.  
Jacque Williams reiterated his support of the ACT Commission and all the arts-oriented work that has been done recently.  He felt strongly that the arts are both an economic development driver and also help to bring the community together.
Rose Ponte thanked the commissioners for their hard work and enthusiasm over the past several years.  She is sad to say goodbye but plans on staying involved when possible.  
Meeting adjourned on a motion by Ed Cannata, seconded by Jacque.  The meeting was adjourned at 11:07am.
