Arts Culture Torrington Commission
Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, August 29th – 10:00am
City Hall Auditorium
Attendance: Steve Criss, Bill Haygood, Jacque Williams, Sally Bergad, Judy McElhone, Lynn Gelormino, Gail Krupa, Tim Waldron, Sharon Waagner, Henry Haburey Jr, Rose Ponte
Meeting was called to order at 10:00am. Minutes of the previous meeting were passed on a motion by Jacque, seconded by Sally Bergad.
Chairman Steve Criss announced the resignation of Jessica Hodorski and Diane Consolini. Steve Criss asked members of the commission to please forward names of potential new members to Rose or the Mayor for consideration.
Sharon Waagner reported that she and other members of ACT recently attended an information forum on various Placemaking Grants that will be available soon.
Steve Criss reported that the cat mural by Danielle Mailer would be unveiled tomorrow evening at the last Marketplace of the summer. Rose added that there is an opening reception for the city canvas cities in Hartford on Sept. 20th
Jacque Williams reported that the Singer Songwriter Network just concluded their summer concert series. They are currently planning an anniversary celebration and working with the Torrington Symphony Orchestra as well as with Artwell to create an artist lab.
Discussions to prolong Artspace through the fall months was underway, with the next artist reception to take place on Friday, September 14th. Discussion on the future of Artspace was held, with various thoughts on the creation of a 501 c3 or it remaining a part of ACT.
Steve Criss made a motion to create a new ACT Policy Sub Committee, Sharon Waagner seconded the motion with all in favor.
Discussion on a fall event was tabled.
Motion to adjourn was made by Rose Ponte, seconded by Steve Criss. The meeting was adjourned at 12:02pm.
