SPECIAL AND TELEPHONIC MEETING
CITY COUNCIL & WPC AUTHORITY
July 31, 2013
A SPECIAL AND TELEPHONIC MEETING was held by the City Council & WPC Authority in the Mayor's Office on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
Those in attendance included Mayor Ryan Bingham, Corporation Counsel Raymond Rigat, and City Councilor Gerald Zordan. Participating via telephone were City Councilors Drake Waldron, Elinor Carbone, Paul Samele and Gregg Cogswell. City Councilor Marie Soliani was absent. City Engineer
Ed Fabbri was also present.
Mayor Bingham called the meeting to order at 2:08 p.m.
MAIN STREET REALIGNMENT & STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS
On a motion by Councilor Zordan, seconded by Councilor Waldron, the Council voted unanimously to approve the City Engineer's recommendation to award a contract for the Main Street Realignment and Streetscape Improvements- Phase 1 Bid # MSR-027-070813 to Martin Laviero Contractor, Inc. of Bristol, CT in the amount of $182,629.50 and to have the Mayor act on the behalf of the City regarding the execution of the contract and its administration including approval of change orders and pay applications.
Mr. Fabbri explained that this is the same contractor who took care of Maiden Lane, and he was pleased with their work. He noted that the price is right, they work well with the public and he is pleased to be at this point moving forward.
Mayor Bingham agreed that this is the right step in the right direction.
Councilor Carbone asked when the ground-breaking would be. Mr. Fabbri answered that the contractor wants to start September 3rd but he is hoping they can start sooner, rather than later. He said he is having a pre-construction meeting with them and the Department of Transportation next week.
ADJOURNMENT
On a motion by Councilor Waldron, seconded by Councilor Zordan, the Council voted unanimously to adjourn at 2:12 p.m.
