Mayor Bingham called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
HIRE CHIEF OF FIRE SERVICES
On a motion by Commissioner Potter, seconded by Commissioner Benedetto the Board voted unanimously to appoint Gary Brunoli to the position of Chief of Fire Services for the City of Torrington, effective November 22, 2012.
Mayor Bingham explained that the offer letter includes a request that the Chief will work alongside the Board of Public Safety to develop a plan to work better with the Volunteer Fire Departments, create goals on a timeline, show measurable results within the first year of employment and to develop a communication protocol with Board of Public Safety members.
Mayor Bingham thanked Commissioners LaMonica, Benedetto and Potter for serving on the search committee with Mr. Gritt. Although long and arduous, the process worked, he said.
Commissioner Benedetto said it has been difficult because so many well qualified candidates came before the committee. He said Acting Fire Chief Brunoli's performance has demonstrated his strong leadership qualities.
Commissioner LaMonica thanked everyone and said he always felt Acting Chief Brunoli was the best candidate.
Commissioner Potter added that it was a great learning experience, and said Acting Chief Brunoli does have their full support.
Commissioner Battle said she is thrilled that Acting Chief Brunoli was chosen, and she thinks he is the right person for the job.
OATH OF OFFICE
Mayor Bingham, serving as a Justice of the Peace, gave the oath of office to Gary Brunoli for the office of Chief of Fire Services for the City of Torrington.
Chief Brunoli thanked the Board and the Mayor for their support, and said he looks forward to working with them. He thanked his family for their support, Retired Chief Field and Retired Deputy Chief Giampaolo for the opportunities they provided that allowed him to grow in the Department, and thanked the men and women of the Torrington Fire Department for their support. He also thanked the citizens of Torrington, saying they are here to serve them each and every day with professional and compassionate service with what resources they are given. He said, to the best of their ability, they will put their personal agendas aside and work together to make the Torrington Fire Service the best service for the people in this City.
