MINUTES BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY NOVEMBER 18, 2009

A SPECIAL MEETING of the Board of Public Safety was held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, in the Main Room of the Senior Center.
Those in attendance included Acting Mayor Elinor Carbone, Corporation Counsel Ernestine Yuille Weaver, Members of the Board of Public Safety Robert Zordan, Richard Zaharek, Douglas Benedetto, James Potter, and Christopher Cook, Police Chief Michael Maniago, Deputy Police Chief Christopher Smedick, Capt. Todd Schaller, Sgt. Joseph Locascio, Det. Kevin Tieman, Off. Todd Fador, Off. Michael Morris and Personnel Director Thomas Gritt. Commissioner Gerald Zordan was absent.
Acting Mayor Carbone called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m.

EXECUTIVE SESSION: POLICE PERSONNEL #44 On a motion by Commissioner Potter, seconded by Commissioner Cook, the Board voted unanimously to enter executive session at 6:35 p.m. regarding police personnel, inviting Atty. Weaver, Chief Maniago, Dep. Chief Smedick, Capt. Schaller, Sgt. Locascio, Personnel Dir. Gritt, Ms. Gina Spring, Counsel for Ms. Spring--Atty. Kelly Rommel, Union Reps. Off. Fador and Off. Tieman.

OPEN SESSION: #72 On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner Zaharek, the Board voted unanimously to enter open session at 8:09 p.m.

TERMINATE EMPLOYMENT/ G.SPRING: #76 On a motion by Commissioner Potter, seconded by Commissioner Benedetto, the Board voted 4/1 to accept the recommendation of Chief Maniago and to discontinue the probationary status of Probationary Officer Gina Spring effective immediately for failure to successfully complete probationary period which shall effectively terminate her employment with the City of Torrington immediately. Commissioner Cook opposed.

ADJOURNMENT #100 On a motion by Commissioner Potter, seconded by Commissioner Cook, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn at 8:11 p.m.
