MINUTES
BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY
March 19, 2015
A SPECIAL MEETING of the Board of Public Safety was held in the City Hall Auditorium on Thursday, March 19, 2015.
Those in attendance included Mayor Elinor Carbone, Commissioners Douglas Benedetto, Glenn McLeod, Robert Conforti, Darlene Battle, and Richard Zaharek along with Police Chief Michael Maniago, Deputy Police Chief Christopher Smedick, Officer Steven Pisarski, Fire Chief Gary Brunoli, Comptroller Alice Proulx and Deputy Comptroller Gina Casper. Commissioner Angelo LaMonica was absent.
Mayor Carbone called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m. starting with the Pledge of Allegiance.
BUDGETS
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner Zaharek, the Board voted unanimously to tentatively approve the Emergency Management budget of $36,167.
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to tentatively approve the Fire Department budget of $5,008,081.
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner Benedetto, the Board voted unanimously to tentatively approve the Fire Department, Volunteers budget of $128,242.
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner Zaharek, the Board considered tentative approval of the Police Department budget of $8,740,662. Commissioner McLeod requested a motion amendment for the return of the civilian clerk salary to the budget, in the amount of $18,813.60. Commissioner Conforti declined to amend his motion. The motion failed with a vote of 1/4 with Commissioner Conforti voting in favor.
On a motion by Commissioner McLeod, seconded by Commissioner Benedetto, the Board voted 4/0 to add in the civilian clerk salary for the half-year and tentatively approve the Police Department budget of $8,760,913. Commissioner Conforti abstained.
On a motion by Commissioner Battle, seconded by Commissioner Zaharek, the Board voted unanimously to tentatively approve the Animal Control budget of $270,941.
On a motion by Commissioner Battle, seconded by Commissioner Benedetto, the Board voted unanimously to tentatively approve the Traffic Division budget of $352,554.
ADJOURNMENT
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn at 7:33 p.m.
