MINUTES                                                                                                                                
BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY
 May 3, 2017

A REGULAR MEETING of the Board of Public Safety was held in the City Hall Auditorium on Wed., May 3, 2017.

Those in attendance included Mayor Elinor Carbone and Commissioners Darlene Battle, Richard Zaharek, Douglas Benedetto, Robert Conforti, Glenn McLeod and Angelo LaMonica.  Also present were Deputy Police Chief Christopher Smedick, Traffic Officer Stephen Pisarski, Fire Chief Gary Brunoli, Deputy Fire Chief Christopher Pepler, Fire Marshal Ed Bascetta, Training Officer David Tripp, Campion Ambulance Director of Operations Fred Rosa and representatives from the Volunteer Fire Departments.

Mayor Carbone called the meeting to order at 6:50 p.m.

MINUTES
On an amended motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded as amended by Commissioner Zaharek, the Board voted unanimously to accept the minutes of the Regular meeting held April 5, 2017 as corrected.  Commissioner McLeod abstained.

On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner Conforti, the Board voted unanimously to accept the minutes of the Special meeting held jointly with City Council on April 5, 2017.  Commissioner McLeod abstained.

OPEN TO PUBLIC
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to open the meeting to the public.  

REPORTS

On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept Fire Chief Brunoli’s Report.  Chief Brunoli said he’s looking into radio system improvements.

On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept Deputy Fire Chief Pepler's Report.

On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to accept Training Officer Tripp's Report.

On a motion by Commissioner Battle, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept the Emergency Management Report.

On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept the Fire Marshal’s report.

On a motion by Commissioner Zaharek, seconded by Commissioner Benedetto, the Board voted unanimously to accept Police Chief Maniago’s Report.
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to accept Officer Pisarski's Traffic Operations Unit Report.  Office Pisarski said the boot letters are working.

On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to accept the EMS Provider Activity Report.  

BUSINESS: VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to consider business by Volunteer Fire Departments.  
Torringford Chief Joshua Cote announced his resignation due to his relocation to South Carolina.
Drakeville Chief Michael Maccalous commended Joshua Cote.

BUSINESS:  DEPT. HEADS  
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner Conforti, the Board voted unanimously to consider business by Department Heads.  

Deputy Chief Smedick reported on a recent arrest in a homicide investigation.

Chief Brunoli thanked Deputy Fire Marshal LaMothe for his years of service and wished Josh Cote luck.

Mr. Rosa reported that it was a tough month with a lot of horrific calls.

BUSINESS:  MAYOR & MEMBERS
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner Conforti, the Board voted unanimously to consider business by the Mayor and members of the Board of Public Safety.  The Commissioners wished Fire Marshal LaMothe and Joshua Cote good luck and thanked them for their service.

Mayor Carbone said that the Street Dept. criminal cases were required to be sealed, and the portions that could be legally released have been released.  She recounted her efforts to grow our grand list, assuring the Board that she will do her best to find needed revenue streams.

ADJOURNMENT  
On a motion by Commissioner Benedetto, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn at 7:10 p.m.
