REGULAR MEETING                                         
BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY
August 3, 2016

A  REGULAR MEETING was held by the Board of Public Safety in the City Hall Auditorium on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

Those in attendance included Acting Mayor Drake Waldron and Board of Public Safety Commissioners Angelo LaMonica, Robert Conforti, Glenn McLeod and Darlene Battle.  Commissioners Richard Zaharek and Douglas Benedetto were absent. Police Chief Michael Maniago, Traffic Officer Steven Pisarski, Fire Chief Gary Brunoli and Campion Ambulance Director of Operations Fred Rosa were also present, along with Drakeville Chief Michael Maccalous, and representatives from Torringford and Burrville VFDs.

Acting Mayor Waldron called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

AWARDS OR PINNING CEREMONIES
Sgt. Bart Barown was awarded for his Commendable Service.

MINUTES
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept the minutes of the Regular meeting held June 1, 2016.

OPEN TO PUBLIC
On a motion by Commissioner McLeod, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to open the meeting to the public.  There was no one present who wished to speak.

POLICE DEPT: Officer Dominic Savo
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner Battle, the Board voted unanimously to accept Off. Dominic Savo as a regular member of the Police Department, having completed his probationary period one year following his Police Academy graduation, effective June 16, 2016.

REPORTS
POLICE DEPT.
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to accept Police Chief Maniago’s Report.

TRAFFIC
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to accept Officer Pisarski's Traffic Operations Unit Report.  

FIRE DEPT.  
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept Fire Chief Brunoli's Report.  

On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to accept Deputy Fire Chief Pepler's Report.  

On a motion by Commissioner McLeod, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept Training Officer Tripp's Report.

On a motion by Commissioner Battle, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept the Emergency Management Report.

On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept Fire Marshal Bascetta’s Report.

EMS PROVIDER
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the Board voted unanimously to accept the EMS Provider Activity Report.

VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPTS.
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to consider business by Volunteer Fire Departments.   

Drakeville Chief Michael Maccalous thanked all those who attended a member’s wake.
Torringford had no report
Burrville reported that a minor incident occurred that they handled internally and they look forward to continuing their service to the City.

BUSINESS BY DEPT. HEADS
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to consider business by Department Heads.

Chief Maniago reported that the new K9 graduated from patrol dog school, that they were saddened at the loss of Brodie their first K9, and that they are working on filling five vacancies, with seats reserved in the September Academy.  He thanked everyone in the community for all the support they have given to the Police Department.

Chief Brunoli commended the firefighters and staff for all their work, having been busy recently.

Mr. Rosa had no report.

BUSINESS BY MAYOR AND MEMBERS
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, the Board voted unanimously to consider business by Mayor and members of the Board of Public Safety.

Commissioner Conforti thanked Burrville for their actions and thanked the career department for demonstrating the equipment he voted on, saying he feels comfortable that he made the right decision.
Commissioner McLeod expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to see the SCBA equipment and get involved in the decision.  He thanked both the Police and Fire Departments for the professional work they do every day.
Commissioner Battle also thanked the departments and added a thank you to Campion Ambulance for their recent transfer of her husband.
Acting Mayor Waldron also commended the departments for the fine work that they do.

ADJOURNMENT
On a motion by Commissioner Conforti, seconded by Commissioner LaMonica, the meeting was adjourned at 6:51 p.m.
