St. Patrick's Day Celebration
LORD MAYOR JOAN McLAUGHLIN


Mayor Ryan Bingham is pleased to announce that Joan McCaffrey McLaughlin will serve as “Lord Mayor” for the 2006 Saint Patrick’s Day celebration on Friday, March 17th.  The festivities will begin with the raising of the Irish flag at 10:00 a.m. in front of City Hall.  “Mayor McLaughlin” will then receive her guests in the Mayor’s Office until 12:00 noon.  

“I am very pleased that Joan will be serving a day as Mayor as she has been such an integral part of City Hall operations for many years”, said Mayor Bingham.  “I hope that many Torrington residents will stop by to honor “Lord Mayor McLaughlin” as she celebrates her special day.”  

“Lord Mayor McLaughlin”, a lifelong resident of Torrington, graduated from St. Francis School, Torrington High School and Northwestern CT Community College.  “Mayor McLaughlin” is the mother of 5 children and grandmother of 7.  She is the widow of Robert McLaughlin.  Joan is employed in the City Clerk’s Office, where she has worked for the past 20 years.  Prior to that she was employed at the Police Department for 5 years.  “Mayor McLaughlin’s” ancestors hail from County Clare and Tipperary, Ireland, where she has visited numerous times.        

The festivities will include a performance by the McArdle Dancers at approximately 11:00 a.m. in the auditorium.
