Downtown Fall Festival Scheduled for September 25th

TORRINGTON– The City of Torrington is gearing up for the Downtown Fall Festival.  The street fair will be held on Sunday September 25th from 11 AM to 4 PM on Main Street.  The free event will feature a diverse mix of vendors, food, entertainment, a scarecrow contest, and fun for the entire family.

"Our June Street Fair was a smashing success despite the 100-degree heat that day," Mayor Quinn said. "I don't think this next fair will be that hot and I expect an even greater number of people and vendors to participate."

50-plus vendors will be showcasing their products, including decorative folk art, handcrafted jewelry, adult and kids clothing, books and toys, scented oils and soaps, kitchen tools, silk floral arrangements, wind chimes, wall hangings, handbags and much more.

The entertainment schedule is as follows:

11:00 Kickoff with the Forbes Flyers

12:00 Musical Performance by Ian Campbell

1:00 Circus Performance and Interactive Playtime with Matica

2:00 Musical Performance by David Quick

2:30 Performances by the Torrington High School Varsity & JV dance teams

Ongoing will be clowns entertaining the children with balloon animals, free face painting by Torrington High School art students, karate demonstrations and hat making with Artwell Gallery.

The Torrington Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a Scarecrow Contest at this year's street fair.  The public is invited to create their own scarecrow and display it on the City Hall Lawn during the Fall Festival Street Fair.  Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: individual, family and group.  Scarecrows should be set up between 8-9:30 AM at City Hall.  For more information, or to preregister for the scarecrow contest, contact Parks & Recreation at 489-2274.

Free cotton candy will be distributed, courtesy of NW Hills Credit Union.  In addition, WSNG AM 610 will be present with free prize giveaways.  Visitors are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to support Friendly Hands Food Bank.

Main Street will be closed between Water and Church Streets from 9 AM – 4 PM to accommodate the festival.  Visitors are asked to park in the municipal lot on Litchfield Street, adjacent to the Torrington Library, or the municipal lot on Church Street.
