Volunteers Needed for Tour of CT
The Northwest Corner is hosting the Tour of Connecticut Bicycle Race on May 22, 2005 and organizers are looking for residents to host racers and serve as course marshals.

This world-class international professional bicycle race is held throughout the State, with the Torrington/ Litchfield Hills race, Stage III, as the culminating event.  The Torrington stage will start in Downtown Torrington and travel 116 miles on the roads of 14 other Litchfield Hills towns before returning to the finish in Torrington.

In addition to the professional race, there will be a recreational ride to raise awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

“This race last year was spectacular,” said Mayor Owen Quinn.  “It brought thousands of people to Torrington from all over and we want it to be bigger and better than last year.”

Volunteer Course Marshals are needed to make the event a success.  Volunteers will be required to attend a training session and will assist the Police Department the day of the race.  Each Course Marshal will receive a T-shirt and whistle.

In addition, the Tour will bring more than 25 teams, comprised of eight riders in each team, to the area.  Several teams are looking for places to stay and organizers are looking for volunteers to take in one or more of the racers.
