TORRIGNTON – Mayor Owen Quinn is pleased to announce that donations to help offset the cost of the City’s new Christmas Tree and ornaments have been flooding in by local residents. To date, $1,300 has been donated for the community-wide event.
“The generosity of local residents never surprises me, the holiday spirit is truly alive and well in Torrington,” Mayor Quinn said.
Two-year-old, Jada Manegal, came to City Hall Wednesday to help the cause. After handing $50 cash to David Rivera, Chief of Staff to the Mayor, the shy toddler quickly retreated back to the protective arms of her mother. As a thank-you for her donation, Jada was presented with an official city pin.
“Christmas has a way of bringing out the best in people, young and old,” Mayor Quinn said. “I am so proud of this community.”
Money collected for the tree will help with the Dec. 3, 5:30 p.m. Tree-Lighting Ceremony outside of City Hall.
Anyone wishing to contribute can contact the Mayor’s Office at 860-489-2228.
