New Economic Development Program
City of Torrington's Economic Development Program,
a Community based Strategy

The Torrington Office of Economic Development launched its new Development Program at the Nutmeg Conservatory on October 2nd, 2003. The Program is a combination of short and long term initiatives. The Summit agenda included:

Ø Highlights of the current state of the City's fiscal plan
Ø An update on the current and planned OED initiatives
Ø Details of the new Program and the road map to implement the strategy

The presentations provided at the event can be viewed via the following links:

The goals of the Program include:

Ø Implement a strategy that will position Torrington as a premier locale to do business and live
Ø Position Torrington as the regional heart of Litchfield County

The Program is unique in that it is a “Community “ based strategy and is based on a partnering between the public, private and not-for profit sectors. The program encourages each Community member to become a “Sales” person marketing Torrington to the people they do business with and come in contact with. The program has been developed in response to the City's need for innovative ways and out of the box solutions to achieve the growth goals and sustain the highest quality of life. Participation in the Program is voluntary.

This message will initially be targeted at businesses currently outside the community, and will also provide tools for businesses within the community wishing to grow their revenues. This strategy is the foundation to grow the tax base in an effort to maintain the quality of life for our citizens and businesses and to minimize the going forward need to reduce cost through cut backs in services.

We will be developing the Marketing tools for the newly formed Sales Channel including:

Ø Statement of Qualifications document
Ø Marketing brochure
Ø Grass Roots Public Relations Campaign

Furthermore the economic development office will be hosting networking events and issuing new letters, providing updates on the initiative. It is truly an exciting Program and will continue to evolve based on the needs of the Community.
