The City of Torrington is pleased to announce that we are
now accepting applications to the Litchfield Hills Façade Improvement Program.
The program was established by the Litchfield Hills Council of Elected Officials to strengthen the economic viability of local businesses; improve and beautify the exterior appearance of storefronts and commercial buildings; and preserve the architectural heritage of the region's business buildings. It is funded with a grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.
The Façade Improvement Program rebates 50% of the cost of approved exterior building façade and site improvements for the first $30,000 of improvement, with a 20% rebate for additional project expenses up to a maximum project cost of $100,000. The maximum rebate that can be provided for a single application is $29,000.
Eligible renovation expenses include façade improvements, such as signs, doors, painting, storefronts, awnings, lighting and masonry cleaning/repair. Exterior site improvements, such as landscaping, lighting, pedestrian amenities and parking lots are also eligible when done in conjunction with façade work. In addition, professional fees for architecture, design, and engineering services are eligible. Any rehabilitation expenses incurred prior to application approval are not eligible.
The grant funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Torrington Façade Improvement Committee will be meeting monthly to review applications and make funding recommendations. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday June 17th.
