MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING – August 18, 2008 5:00 PM

Selectmen Present:     Eric R. Munson, Jr., Steven DellaGiustina and Thomas Paine

Also Present:   Wayne Carr, Ted Locke, Joanne Duval, Jim Deming and Robert Littlefield, Sr.

Two bids were received for the new single axle truck:

Truck Center, Inc. - $135,254 Peterbilt

Tri State Truck Center - $123,000 Sterling

The Board of Selectmen introduced themselves to John D. Barry, Ed. D., Superintendent of Southwick Tolland Regional School District.

James Deming and Eric R. Munson expressed some concerns with the length of time children from the Powder Mill Middle School would be spending on the bus for the return home route. The school release time for the students is 2:41PM and their children would not arrive home until 4:15PM. Dr. Barry will review the schedule with Business Manager, Paul Petit.

Robert Littlefield, Sr., Fire Chief gave the board an updated list of members:

Robert informed the board that the tanker truck’s tank is cracked and will cost $20K - $25K. Also, Engine 2 and Rescue 1 are in need of some repairs. The Board of Selectmen authorized Robert to schedule any repairs that can be made by the Tolland’s Department of Public Works through Wayne Carr.

Joanne Duval discussed the Transfer Station. Jeff is having some difficulties with some permit holders following the rules. A request will be made to the Tolland Police Chief to have an Officer available periodically to help out at the Transfer Station. Joanne will have Jeff, hand out to permit holders a recap of the rules.

Joanne also discussed with the board non-criminal disposition bylaw tickets. Joann stated to the board that the issue with the tickets is not picking out a ticket the issue is the process after the ticket is issued. Such as, even what someone can write on the ticket and what does the Town Clerk do after the ticket is paid of even if the ticket is not paid. The Board of Selectmen will request to meet with the Town Clerk.
