Meeting Minutes
Tolland Public Libary Board of Trustees
December 14, 2010
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 3:50 p.m.
Present: Carolyn Locke, Penny Babbitt, Gloria Gery and Library Director, Jessica Kelmelis.
Minutes: The June 15, 2010 meeting minutes were approved unanimously.
Old Business:
Aetna Volunteer Grants: The additional $600 in Aetna Volunteer Grants for Trustees Babbitt and Gery will be received by December 31, 2010. These private contributions will be used to purchase and install a window air conditioner for the library. Library landscaping will begin in the spring with the $900 received previously from Aetna Volunteer grants.
Library Lending Policy Revision: The lending policy was reviewed and unanimously approved. Jessica Kelmelis will distribute the new policy to Trustees by email and to Gloria for posting on the website.
Quilting Book donations: Carolyn reported that no donations of quilting materials were made by the Granville Quilting Society to the Tolland library.
New Business
eBooks: Two cardholders have requested eBooks for Kindle through the Library. Currently the library must give its digital book number to those requesting books. There is a current limit of six books that can be distributed at one time. eBook circulation is expected to increase. Jessica will consult with other libraries who have more eBook distribution volume and will recommend policy and procedure to the Trustees at our next meeting.
Trustee Terms and Resignation
- Gloria Gery’s term ends in May 2011 and she has agreed to stand for reelection if nominated at the town Caucus.
- Trustee Carolyn Locke will resign as a trustee as soon as a new trustee can be identified and appointed by the Selectmen. Carolyn’s resignation is due to other commitments.
Library Statistics:
- Library holdings, circulation and transactions from 2006 through 2010 were reviewed. Book circulation has declined, largely due to the death of a high-volume card holder. Video usage has almost doubled.
- All required statistical reports have been filed on time with the state.
Next Trustees Meeting Date: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. at the Library.
