Call to Order: The meeting commenced at 3:30 p.m.
Present: Penny Babbitt, Carolyn Locke and Librarian Jessica Kelmelis. Excused: Gloria Gery.
Minutes: The minutes of the June 6, 2007 Trustees meeting were approved as read.
Old Business
Museum Passes:
§ Norman Rockwell Museum passes were valid through August 31, 2007 and renewal will be tabled until
next spring.
§ Hancock Shaker Village: The tickets are here and are valid through August 31, 2008.
Capital Projects:
§ Library Floor: Lally columns to shore the floor have been installed.
§ Basement Clean out: Has not been done but this is not a priority of the Library.
§ Library Painting: Bids are out but we need one more.
§ Wireless Printer: Jessica will research the options we need on a printer. We may not go wireless.
Technology:
§ New Computers: A letter of appreciation was sent to Mr. Dunn. One of the computers was trashed.
§ Satellite Antenna Booster: The antenna has been installed.
§ Computer and Internet Use Policy: The policy has been completed and implemented.
§ Guidelines for Children’s Use of the Computer: The guidelines have been implemented.
The Town has purchased a new copier and we may take their old one which does not print two-sided but is better than the one we have now.
Library Security: Deadbolts are not allowed on public buildings. No further action will be taken.
New Children’s Materials Bookcase and Librarian Desk: The furniture is in.
Ice Cream Program: Ice cream, coffee and book sales netted about $200 which will be sent to the Regional Library System.
New Business:
Library Usage: There have been two requests from Tolland residents to use the Library during times when the Library would not normally be open. After much discussion and consideration of the needs of the individuals, it was decided that due to liability, property risk and precedent setting the library would not be available during off hours. Jessica will let the two requestors know of our decision. What is being considered as a possible alternative is to change the Library hours by cutting an hour and a half from Monday, closing at 7 p.m. and adding it to Thursday to allow the Library to be open until 5:30. Jessica will research this possibility.
