Finance Committee Minutes
January 23, 2008
Present: Ralph Ledger, Mira Munson, David Barney, Ted Locke
Absent: Margaret McClellan
The meeting was called to order by Ralph Ledger at 6:30 P.M. on January 23, 2008.
The Committee set about reviewing the budgets that had been returned by Department Heads to date. Most budgets were straight forward and did not reflect significant increases. However, there were some questions which Ralph agreed to contact Margaret about:
- Town Insurance & Bonds increased by $5000 (20%) – why?
- Health insurance decreased by $5000 – why?
- Office Supplies request for $3000 when FY2008 has only a fraction of budget spent. Treasurer’s expenses for FY2008 reflect same issue when compared to 2009 request – why? Library also – why so few expenses to date?
Ralph and Ted attended a Regional School Committee Meeting in Southwick on 1/22/08. They reported that at this time, the school budget reflects an increase of 6.9%-7.3% which translates into a 11.7% increase in Tolland’s assessment over last year. They reported that many numbers are soft as all state numbers are not in yet. Final numbers will probably not be the same.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mira K. Munson
Secretary, Finance Committee
