Board of Assessors Meeting Minutes

Minutes from the May meeting were read and accepted.
One Motor Vehicle abatement application was reviewed and granted. All corresponding paperwork was signed.
The Board had a brief discussion of the tax exempt status of the Girl Scouts of Connecticut. We are waiting to get advice from the Municipal Finance Law department.
The Board agrees that there should be no entrance to any property without permission of the owner. All interior inspections should be by appointment. Letters have been and will continue to be sent to property owners to request an appointment for building permits, sales, and cyclical maintenance. The Board agrees that it should be stated in the letters that is entrance is not allowed, assumptions will be made on property specifics based on area comparables and items visible from the road.
The Board agrees that the property located at Map 410 Lot 4 should have a discounted value due to the nature of the contiguous non-conforming lot. It will be valued at 25% of its full value. A letter of explanation has been sent to the property owners and placed within the parcel file.
The Board discussed the idea of rotating the position of chair among the board on an annual basis. Sue Moore felt that it was important that if a member of the Board also held the position of Assessor Clerk, that they not be allowed to be chair. The topic will be on the agenda for the July Meeting.
