NCCHP Museum Update for January 2017
Many thanks to NCCHP members, friends and visitors who supported the museum in 2016. From the annual ice harvest in February, the monthly living history series events in May – October, to the 35th annual Granville Harvest Fair weekend we enjoyed seeing many familiar faces and meeting new visitors as well. We appreciate all the local support for “Keeping The Drumbeat of History Alive”.
Mark your calendars!~ The 9th~annual Ice Harvest at the shop pond will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 12:00 – 3:00.~~Dennis Picard, director of Storrowton Village Museum, will organize the harvest and invite visitors to join him on the ice (conditions permitting) to use the ice saw and other tools to experience life before the days of refrigeration.~ A video on ice harvesting in New England will also be shown continuously in the NCCHP Museum.~~
The rescue horses from the Blue Star Equiculture Farm (~www.equiculture.org) will be back for Ice Harvest again this year.~ ~Be sure to come visit these amazing work horses and learn about their history! The museum will be open for tours that focus on Yankee Ingenuity from the 1850’s to current day. We hope to bring people together to rekindle the community spirit of the farm communities and industrial villages that were common in most of New England. The Noble & Cooley Center for Historic Preservation invites everyone with an interest in “living history” to join us at
the museum.~~The NCCHP museum is located at 42 Water St. Granville, MA in the historic buildings of the Noble & Cooley Toy Drum Factory.
There is no charge for the event but donations will be gratefully accepted. This living history presentation is supported in part by a grant from the Granville Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The NCCHP museum at the Drum Shop is located at 42 Water Street in Granville and during the winter months is open for tours by appointment only. Tours for groups of ten or more are available during the week by appointment (call 413-357-6321).~ Admission is free for NCCHP members; $5 for adults and $3 for children for non-members. The Gift Shop is open year-round M-F from 8-4 and when the museum is open.
