A Statement from the Selectboard
On 11/20/2016, at approximately 2:15, tones went off for smoke in the DPW building. The Tolland Fire Department responded initially. Other towns were called in under mutual aid: eleven other towns from two states. Even though there was a concerted effort to gain control of the fire, due to extreme weather conditions, they were not able to save the building along with our two main plow trucks, our loader and all stored materials and equipment. The grader, backhoe, our 1 ton plow and miscellaneous equipment were in the pole barn behind the DPW and were not lost.

We would like to reassure the residents of Tolland that we are still maintaining our roads using some of Tolland's equipment and some borrowed equipment from surrounding towns. We are currently setting up the DPW office within the Public Safety Complex and will use part of a Fire Department bay will be used for some DPW equipment for the time being.

We have had numerous surrounding towns and businesses offer their assistance. The Selectboard, DPW and Fire Department are busily setting up resources to ensure the town needs will be cared for. As is usual in Tolland, we will take care of what needs to be done and move forward. We appreciate your patience in advance.
