Roll Call: Faulkner, Dermody, Lopes, Spencer, Abreau, Pimental, Campbell and Faulkner.
Meeting opens at 5:30 PM
Dave made motion to accept minutes of June 1, 2006, seconded by Manny. All in favor.
Arthur made motion to accept minutes of July 16, 2009 meeting, seconded by Tony. All in favor.
Special Permit/Site Plan Review – 1023 County Street, Smokey Bones – Live Entertainment – Need to forward a recommendation to the Municipal Council.
Dick made motion to invite petitioner into the enclosure. Seconded by Arthur. All in favor.
Steve Broeder, General Manager, was invited into the enclosure. Mr. Broeder stated Smokey Bones has been in business for 10 years and within the last 2 years several of them have closed. An investment group bought them out and they currently have 7 restaurants. They are trying to do different things to attract customers to the site such as changing the menu to not just include ribs. They tried to do ladies night, poker nights and now they want to add later night entertainment such as karaoke, 1-2 man bands playing music. They would play from 9:00 PM to closing. He stated they want to provide entertainment in hopes of inviting people to the restaurant and keep them there. Chairman Dermody asked if the Dartmouth location has entertainment? Mr. Broeder answers Dartmouth closed
4-5 years ago. He stated Stoughton & Warwick locations are going thru the same process as Taunton. Dick asked if the entertainment if going to be “G”? Mr. Broeder stated they used to have Nicolodean, Red Sox and Patriots on TV. He certainly isn’t looking to provide “adult entertainment”. They are thinking 1 man acoustics and 3 –man bands. The closest restaurant is in Kingsbury, Ma. Dick asked if they were doing it every night? Mr. Broeder stated they don’t know if they will be open every night but possibly. Arthur asked what’s the seating limit? Mr. Broeder answers he thinks around 280. It was asked if there would be dancing? Mr. Broeder answers he’s not sure. He’s not looking to create a dance hall but can’t promise if a customer wouldn’t want to dance. Manny asked the hours of operation? Mr. Broeder
stated currently the hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 4:00 PM - 11:00 PM and Saturday & Sunday 11:00 AM – midnight.. Mr. Broeder stated there are some exceptions to the closing if they have something going on that may go until 12:30 AM? Bob asked if they tried experimenting with the menu to attract customers. Mr. Broeder stated they have done a complete re-position of everything from adding a lot more variety of foods, advertising and coupons. They are contacting trying to attract people their establishment. It was asked if a police detail would be needed and that would be under the jurisdiction of the license commission thru their permit.
Manny made motion to forward a positive recommendation to the Municipal Council to allow Live Entertainment, seconded by Dick. All in favor.
