Recreation Committee Minutes 2013/07

Sunapee Recreation Department
Committee Meeting
July, 2013

MINUTES

  • Call to Order was made at 6:33
Attendees:  Scott Blewitt, Erica Belisle, Maria Fair, Craig Heino, Matt McNally, Brian Emery, Paul Skarin
Guest: John Augustine, Mike Pollari

  • Minutes from the June 2013 meeting were not available and will be mailed out to everyone

  • There is one opening for the committee, since neither of the current alternates are interested in moving up.  Mike Pollari and John Augustine are both interested in becoming committee.  Both men spoke briefly on their interest.
Brian Emery said he was willing to step down so both men could join.  Brian said that he has liked his time on the committee, but has been offered a spot on another and feels that others may have more of a vested interest in the Recreation Committee than he does, at this point.
Maria made the motion to accept Brian’s resignation with regret, and to thank him for his service to the Town of Sunapee.  Erica seconded the motion.  It passed unanimously.

Paul made a motion to accept John Augustine as an alternate (taking Brian Emery’s spot) and Mike Pollari as a full member of the committee (filling Patricia Halpin’s spot).  Maria seconded the motion.  It passed unanimously.

  • Review of Mission Statement:  Everyone agrees with statement.
  • Summer Sports Camp: Participation has been good.  8-10 kids participate each week.
  • July 4th:  Free hotdogs, chips and waters at Dewey were very well received.
  • July 5th:  Watermelon Race – 35 to 40 racers.  Took about 45 minutes.  There are some tweeks needed for next year.  Hay bales for route, for example.  Discussed possibly using the school hill instead of Burkehaven.
Puppet Show at Flanders Stage – was very well attended.
     8.  July 6th:  Drum Circle – Seemed to be well attended
Parade – was an 80’s theme in memory of Buddy.  Very well attended, would like to see it
    continue to grow.
Fireworks –There was a massive crowd.  The display was spectacular. Since they were in
memory of Buddy this year, the budget had been raised to $12,000.  We had raised between
$15,500 & $16,000.  The extra will go in a fund for future years.

9.  There was discussion about trying to involve other groups(Lion’s Club, Booster, PTO, Sunapee Seniors, Abbot Library, for example) in the July 4th weekend celebrations, in the future.

10. Fall Soccer:  deadline for registration is August 1
K-2 will start the Saturday after Labor Day.  K will have its own group and ½ will be
together.  ¾ and 5/6 will start mid to late August, depending on the coaches.  We are part of
the Merrimack Valley League.  Coaches are needed.
11. Mountain Bike Race:  July 21.  Rhonda Gurney is the contact.  Webbs and Harding Hill
      Farm are the big sponsors.
12. No new progress on shed at Dewey

      Cruising Fleet
