Conservation Commission Minutes 2011/05/04
Sunapee Conservation Commission Meeting Minutes May 4, 2011
Present: Tim Fleury, Van Webb, Rem Mastin, Bruce Burdett, Roger Whitaker, Lela Emery
Tom Skorki was present and presented to the board that he would like to volunteer his services of apple tree pruning and work on the 13 Apple trees on the ski tow hill property at no charge. He would like to give back to the town. A plan would be developed based on the needs of each tree and pruned accordingly for the health and live span of the tree. The plan could involve three years of maintence. The first year big corrective cuts would be made, the second year would involve cleaning up the new growth and the third year would be detailing. Tom described in detail the 13 trees and their needs. SCC members were very enthusiastic on the generous offer and told Tom that he needs to go to the town to find out what paper work needs to be in place before work could be done. SCC will take care of the brush from the cutting and pruning.
SCC members reviewed the details of a gift to the town of Sunapee. The parcel is 2.23 Acres which abuts the town property Dewey Woods near Camp David LLC with road frontage on Jobs Creek road. The property has wetlands and forest. No purchase price however there will be legal costs to acquire the parcel. Mike Fenney is the attorney representing the donor. This is a lengthy process as there will need to be 2 public hearings, commitment from the planning board, site visit and title search. Tim Fleury made the motion to accept the 2.23 acres adjacent to Dewey Woods as a donation and to proceed forward with public hearings. Bruce Burdett seconded the motion. All in favor 6, opposed 0. Van will inform Donna and Mike to accept and will pursue the process.
Ledge Pond conservation easement has been signed and accepted by Van on behalf of the Conservation Commission and the Select Board also signed. SCC will plan a public walk in July or August with ASLPT. Katie Richardson wants to feature the parcel for an article in the paper.
ASLPT has sent a letter highlighting the work that they contributed to the Ledge Pond easement and how their funding and expenses. Each easement completed needs $2000 contributed to the enforcement fund to offset potential costs if legal action is required to protect the property. The letter also highlights $16,000 to the Stewardship Fund and the ASLPT asking for a donation for the completed Ledge Pond work performed and assistance with the process of $8,000 and the balance of $10,000 would be raised through fundraising efforts. Rem Mastin made the motion we will pay $8,000 to ASLPT to the Stewardship/Enforcement Fund as part of the Ledge Pond Easement Project. The funds are to be withdrawn from the Conservation Commission Fund. Tim Fleury seconded the motion. All in favor 6, Opposed 0.
Jennings Property – the Selectman did not vote on the easement. It will be reviewed at a later date. Plans for signage and brush work on the Field Stone Hills parcel will be discussed at the next SCC meeting
