Sturbridge Celebrates Arbor Day with tree plantings and seedlings
With a proclamation of Arbor Day by the Sturbridge Board of Selectmen, Tree Warden Tom Chamberland had a busy week in celebrating Arbor Day.  For two days working with the Town’s contractor, planting of 18 street trees “adopted” by 6 families, 1 business and the town.  Then on another day he visited with the students of the Sturbridge Cooperative Nursery School where an American Elm was planted in honor of Arbor Day and the students learned of the seedlings they were receiving of the benefits they will hold for wildlife and our enjoyment as they grow.  Later in the week Tom stopped by Ms. Amber Myotte’s 6th grade class where the students took time from their books to help bag and distribute over 1000 seedlings to the students at Burgess Elementary school.  Arbor Day 2016 is the 28th consecutive celebration of Arbor Day in Sturbridge as a part of the National Arbor Day Foundations “Tree City USA” award program.
