STURBRIDGE ANNOUNCES CHANGE IN
TRAFFIC AT THE TOWN COMMON

After much discussion over the past year, the Town of Sturbridge is announcing some minor changes which impact the flow of traffic and parking in the areas around the Town Common.

On March 7th, the Board of Selectmen accepted a recommendation from the Town Common Study Committee concerning the parking surrounding the Town Common.  The motion was to close the intersection of Morse Street and Rte. 131 (Main Street) to through traffic effective May 1st.  This will allow for additional parking, including handicapped parking, in the area between Chamberlain Street and Rte. 131.  This closure is a for a ‘trial period’ which will run until after the Harvest Festival at which time the Selectmen will revisit the closure to determine if it wishes to permanently close the intersection.

The Town will soon be posting the intersection to be closed, appropriate signage in the area and to place appropriate barricades at the intersection.

“I would like to thank the residents of the area for the feedback received by the Town Common Study Committee,” said Town Administrator Leon A. Gaumond Jr.  “I look forward to any feedback about these changes and feedback can be sent to my attention at lgaumond@town.sturbridge.ma.us.”
