Trail work continues in the Town of Sturbridge
Last week members of the DPW along with 4 Friends of Sturbridge Trail volunteers worked on turning the existing cart/logging road designated the Seven Ridges trail into a sustainable trail on the Leadmine Mt. Property.  The section of the Seven Ridge trail from its start at the Arbutus park trail to the intersection of the Raven Rookery trail is now in a sustainable trail condition, although not measured, the estimated distance is approximately 1500 feet.

Work on the Seven Ridges trail consisted on assessing existing site conditions to determine the best location and number of water diversions needed to be installed, and then installing the water diversions and improving the trail surface to a sustainable grade. In total 3 "sheet flow" locations, 8 water diversions, and 2 raise grade locations were addressed along with 24 large rocks removed.  1 Rock, due to its shape and size was set as a "bench" overlooking the brook, along the trail.

On Friday, similar work started on the west side of the Arbutus Park trail.  If our “winter weather “continues to "cooperate" over the next week or so the DPW will continue work on the west section of the Arbutus Park trail, if not work will resume in the spring.

If you are interested in helping our trails volunteers in their work to develop world class trails here in Sturbridge, please send me an email and let me know.
