Message from the Sturbridge Town Charter Review Committee
2015 CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT

STURBRIDGE – The Town of Sturbridge has a Board of Selectmen/Open Town Meeting form of government that was established by the Sturbridge Home Rule Charter.  The Charter is similar to a state or federal constitution, which after adoption, defines the framework of our Town’s government.

Sturbridge’s Town Charter requires that a Charter Review Committee be appointed by the Board of Selectmen every five years to review and suggest revisions to the Charter.  The Committee seeks to make the Charter a “living” document that will allow our government to continue to be accessible, effective and efficient.  To this end, the 2015 Charter Review Committee is inviting the residents of the community to submit suggested revisions to the Charter.

To ensure that suggested revisions are consistent within the scope of the Charter and the Committee’s power, we encourage you to read the Town Charter (here) and then email your comments to the Committee at sturbridgecharter@gmail.com by January 7, 2016.  There are boxes available in the Town Hall and the Town Library also to submit your suggestions in writing.  Signatures are not necessary on the suggestions deposited in the boxes.  All suggestions which are directly pertinent to the Charter will be read into the Committee’s minutes following the January 7th deadline.
