The US Postal Service recently closed its regional distribution facility in Shrewsbury, MA. We are aware that this closure has been delaying mail delivery. In some instances the delay from when a payment is mailed in Sturbridge to delivery of the mail to our office has been up to a week.
We are bringing this to your attention in order that you plan accordingly when making payments to our office. In some instances taxpayers have received a late notice from us due to the payment not being received by our office by the due date. Please be aware that we have no control over mail delivery. Additionally, the penalties and interest that we assess on your bill due to a late payment are done so in accordance with Massachusetts General Law. We have no control over these fees and are not able to waive them due to a late payment.
If mailing a payment we suggest that you plan that it may take up to one week for us to receive your payment. We urge you to consider making your payments online through our secure online payment option. This service is provided through UniBank . Payments are accepted up to midnight on the due date.
