SWALPAC Minutes 03-17-2009

Members present:  C. Decker, C. Slicer, S. Jeski, J. Futtner, E. Warren, J. Foster, J. Kupchounos

The Commission discussed the Nelson and Jurgelas properties, both of which have been offered to the Town.  Betty Warren spoke with Councilor Gary Bazzano, who said that appraisals have been completed and the Council will discuss possible purchase at a future meeting.

The Commission expressed the hope that any land purchased be reserved for continued agricultural use.

Cliff Slicer raised concerns regarding the Wildlife Sanctuary.  He stated that as an abutter he has noticed intrusion by ATVs, trucks and other motorized vehicles as well as horseback riders and people with multiple dogs that are allowed to run loose.  He stated his concern that there is no signage that states rules of use of the Sanctuary.  Betty Warren explained that the Conservations Commission oversees use and upkeep of the Sanctuary, and she would report his concerns to them.  She will talk with J. Folger to see if arrangement can be made for signage.

Betty received a notice from the Natural Resources Preservation Commission in East Windsor regarding a meeting discussing “Conservation Options for Connecticut Farmland” on March 30th.  She will attend.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.

In the absence of T. Shepard, the minutes were taken by C. Slicer.

Respectfully submitted,

Clifford Slicer
