The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Kent Carlson, followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

MINUTES:
Motion: Hornish/Botteron: Move to accept the minutes of January 21, as printed. Carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Oral report presented by Kent Carlson
Motion:Dickey-Gaignat/Asplund: Move to approve $300 to print flyers regarding the wall behind the monument project. Carried.
CORRESPONDENCE: None at this time.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Essay Contest: Roger Anderson
- 73 entries received; 7: SWHS; 10 TEMS; 56-elementary schools.
- Breakdown: K-2 (poster): 19; 3-5: 37; 6-8: 10; 9-12: 7.
- Members will read essays/ return with personal 1st, 2nd, 3 rd choices
- Second readings will occur in April.
Evening In The Park: Kent Carlson:
- All invitations sent out.
- All contracts signed and deposits sent.
- Three inflatibles arranged for this year at same cost.
- Investigating possibility of WWI ambulance.
- CERT: Crowd control
- Bill Carroll will research “staff” vests.
Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony: Len Glasser
- Invitations to participate in the 2014 parade sent
- Researching more music (sound system; Community Band; flatbed); TE band will march.
- American Legion donating three signs to advertise parade.
- Simple floats discussed/encouraged (reflecting Bill Aman’s idea of awards).
Flag Day flag retirement ceremony: Peter Anthony—collection up-to-date.
Veterans Day Parade: Kent Carlson (event completed)
Veterans Day Ceremony: Kent Carlson—event completed.
Veterans in the Schools: Bill Carroll, Jr.—event concluded.
Wreaths Across America: Art Sladyk
- Monday, December 8, state presentation at Capitol
Wall Behind the Monument: Art Sladyk
- Donation request letter reviewed.
- Recognition of donors discussed (plaques, coins, program)
- Awaiting official notification of monies awarded in grants; American Legion donating $1000.
- Park/Recreation Spring catalog contains full page information on Evening in the Park, Memorial Day Parade, and VMP Memorial improvements.
- Art Sladyk commended on his work on behalf of the monument project.
OLD BUSINESS:
- Wording for Memorial Day parade route signs discussed.
NEW BUSINESS:
- Website updated to reflect VMP project.
ANYTHING FOR THE GOOD OF THE COMMITTEE:
- Herb, Billy, and Councilwoman Pendleton working on update of reading names of service men and women at Town Committee meetings. Names need to be double-checked within service branch systems. Manchester recruiters will be approached.
The next meeting will be held Monday, April 21, 2014, at 7:30 PM..
